Itinerary

Expand All

Day 1 : Start Las Vegas

Location: Las Vegas

Welcome to the neon city in the Nevada desert, Las Vegas. This brash, iconic destination offers you the chance to explore over-the-top casinos, see a show, shop or simply watch the world pass.

The welcome briefing will usually be held in the morning of Day 2, so today is free for you to explore the city and see the neon lights in all their glory.

Accommodation: Alexis Park Resort (or similar)

Day 2 : Las Vegas To Zion National Park

Location: Las Vegas

After leaving Las Vegas, we drive through desert landscapes before arriving in the state of Utah and our destination for today, Zion National Park. Zion Canyon was named by the early Mormon settlers of Utah who thought of it as their ‘promised land’. On arrival, we head to the Zion Human History Museum, which focuses on the rich human history of the area now known as Zion National Park. Several exhibits explain the geology, plant life and human survival in Zion Canyon throughout history.

Accommodation: SpringHill Suites, Springdale (or similar)

Day 3 : Zion National Park

Location: Zion National Park

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today is all about exploring Zion National Park and its vast network of trails. Some of the best hiking in the desert terrain of Southwest USA is here, in and around the fertile Virgin River Gorge, and today we follow the Watchman Trail. It is a steady uphill climb until you reach the viewpoint, which has stunning views of Watchman Peak. In the afternoon, we recommend a walk beside the Virgin River or (if weather conditions permit) you may choose to hike deep into the Narrows, a water channel where you'll witness outstanding scenery. Staying dry is not an option as you wade through the Virgin River between towering walls. The cool waters and the shadow of the canyon can provide a much-needed respite from the scorching sun.

Accommodation: SpringHill Suites, Springdale (or similar)

Day 4 : Bryce Canyon National Park

Location: Bryce Canyon National Park

Meals Included: Breakfast

Leaving Zion, we climb in elevation to almost 8,296ft (2,528m) and traverse a high plateau to Bryce Canyon National Park. ‘Mysterious’, ‘breath-taking’ and ‘out of this world’ are just a few of the descriptions offered by past visitors to describe this fascinating natural amphitheatre of pink, orange and white sandstone spires, known locally as hoodoos.

There are a variety of scenic overlooks and trails that range from easy to moderate in difficulty. The Navajo or Peek-a-Boo Loop trails will enable you to hike right among these unique rock formations. Wherever you walk, you'll encounter a mesmerising kaleidoscope of colours and a fantasy land of rock spires. Photographers may prefer to remain on the rim and capture the ever-changing shadows and colours as the sun travels across the open sky.

Optional activities:

Western horse riding: US$80-US$100

Accommodation: Best Western Plus Ruby's Inn (or similar)

Day 5 : Monument Valley

Location: Monument Valley

Meals Included: Dinner

Today we travel southeast along the Utah-Arizona border and stop at the immense Glen Canyon Dam en route to Monument Valley in the heart of the Navajo Nation. This is sacred land to those who call it home and the red sandstone monoliths and spectacular sunsets and sunrises have been the backdrop to countless Westerns. Explore the incredible array of rock formations on a guided backroads tour, led by a local Navajo guide, to learn the magic and myth of this Native American culture, then indulge in an included traditional Navajo dinner.

Accommodation: Kayenta Monument Valley Inn (or similar)

Day 6 : Navajo National Monument; To The Grand Canyon National Park

Location: Grand Canyon National Park

Head west through the Navajo Reservation to the Navajo National Monument, high up on the Shonto plateau. Here, we discover cliff dwellings dating back to around 1250, which were inhabited by Ancestral Puebloans (descendants of Native American hunter-gatherers). Our Navajo journey continues at the Explore Navajo Museum, where we can see a traditional Navajo hogan (traditional dwelling) and learn about the Navajo stories of creation, before a stop at the Cameron Trading Post to shop for local jewellery, crafts and cultural souvenirs.

In the late afternoon, we approach the eastern entrance of the mighty Grand Canyon, where we catch our first glimpse of it at Desert View. This incredible spectacle is difficult to comprehend, even as you stand at the rim or hike into the canyon. Carved over several millennia, this natural wonder is 277mi (445km) long, up to 18mi (29km) wide and more than 1mi (1.6km) deep. Snaking through the canyon floor is the mighty Colorado River, which runs 1,450mi (2,330km) through seven US states and two Mexican states.

Accommodation: Red Feather Lodge (or similar)

Day 7 : Grand Canyon - Choice Of Walks

Location: Grand Canyon

There is a whole host of rim trail walks that you can enjoy using the park transport, as well as the park ranger’s guided nature walk, or you may just wish to sit in quiet contemplation on the edge of this natural wonder. However, we highly recommend lacing up your hiking boots and walking the South Kaibab Trail to Ooh-Ahh Point for spectacular views across the canyon. For more of a challenge, you may choose to continue the hike as far as Cedar Ridge.

In your free time, we highly recommend a scenic helicopter flight over the canyon, offering perspectives you simply can't see on foot. Alternatively, stroll the easy meandering South Rim Trail, hike your way down the more challenging trail to Plateau Point, or simply relax at the canyon edge and enjoy a spectacular sunset over one of the most fantastic natural wonders in the world.

Optional activities:

Grand Canyon Helicopter flight: US$369 (starting rate, price varies according to demand)

Please note: Grand Canyon National Park regulations limit group size and do not allow guided hikes. Your tour leader will provide briefings, directions and maps, but is not permitted by the National Park Service to walk with you on the trails.

Accommodation: Red Feather Lodge (or similar)

Day 8 : Route 66 - Las Vegas

Location: Las Vegas

From the epic Grand Canyon, we travel onto Seligman, where we stop for an optional lunch at the Snow Cap Diner along a section of Route 66. Prepare to be dazzled all over again by the bright lights of Las Vegas, a memorable end to a fantastic eight days.

This tour ends in Las Vegas at approximately 5pm. If you would like to extend your stay to experience the bright lights of Las Vegas, please speak to your sales representative.

Very helpful and prompt service

Very helpful and prompt service. I called to check for an already booked trip and once we sorted this, the agent was ready to help me with another booking as well. He actually waited for me to book my flight tickets, answered all my questions, informed me of all my options. Exodus is a tour company I am using regularly due to the quality of their trips, ease of booking and helpfulness of their customer service team

Stunning walking. Walking the Amalfi Coast

04-Nov-2021

This trip takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean walking with a guide and also discovering the wonders of Pompeii and Vesuvius. The hotel had a nice feel as family run, spotless and comfortable rooms, we were well looked after for breakfasts and dinner each day, and the barmen fixed some mean cocktails for us.!

It's amazing what you can do in a week! Cycling the Dalmatian Coast.

08-Oct-2021

This holiday was extremely enjoyable. The itinerary is well planned and the route takes you to a variety of destinations. Not having been to Croatia before I didn't know there were so many beautiful small islands and I loved the ferry and catarmaran rides. The coastal route we took was dramatic and the World Heritage sites in Split and Dubrovnik very interesting and worth visiting. The Adriatic Sea was warm, blue and inviting, good for swimming even in October. The hotels we stayed in varied in size from medium to large. I particularly liked the one just outside Dubrovnik as I had a sea view. Tourists were plentiful in Split and Dubrovnik but in the other places we stayed there was an end of season feel and it was quiet on the roads and in the resorts. The food was good and our guide was always able to recommend a nice restaurant for our evening meal. The weather in October was good for cycling - not hot, partly cloudy most days and one day it rained!

Fabulous company and trip

06-Jan-2023

We went overland from Cape Town to Zimbabwe through Botswana and Namibia. What a fantastic trip. Our first time with Exodus although we have travelled extensively around the world. We would highly recommend this company for such a brilliant trip - we got everything and more all at a good price. Thanks to everyone involved. We are looking at our next trip!

08-Oct-2024

We had a week walking and wine in the Duro valley with two local guides Louis and Theresa. They were both exceptional, knowledgeable, professional and funny. Our group of 11 had a great time. This was a premium tour. Our 4 star hotels were both well located clean and with great views. We had several local meals arranged by our guides with local people cooking for us. We did not meet any other walkers during our hikes only two shepherds. I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the local produce and wine. We both felt as we had learnt a lot about Portugal during this tour. We will use Exodus again. One of our group had done 30 tours with Exodus over the years. Quite an endorsement.

17-May-2023

I've done 8 trips in the last 14 years with Exodus, and have been rewarded with a 10% discount on all future bookings. I feel very confident that I'll receive pleasant, efficient service, and have the unusual holiday experience that I'm looking for each time. I've trekked to the top of snow-capped peaks, wild-camped in the desert, seen amazing spectacles of nature, visited 4 capital cities in a week, and learned about local culture and experienced local hospitality in a way that I simply wouldn't on a conventional holiday. The quality of the accommodation and guides can vary, but this is mainly down to cultural differences and things that Exodus can't control. I've only ever complained once, my complaint was taken seriously, and I was sent a discount voucher - you can't say fairer than that. I remain a loyal customer.

21-Aug-2024

Exodus are generally a good travel company. Things tend to run smoothly and trips well organised. Their customers tend to be at retirement age. Trips are a bit overpriced. I would also avoid trips in Europe, as these often focus on more coffee stops and meals, rather than walking. I would also recommend making sure your guide records any accidents you have, hopefully not applicable. I had one on Sierra de Aitana which the guide saw and knew about, but he and Exodus said it never happened when I followed up after the trip. I wasn’t putting in a claim, just suggested a safety improvement. They have since apologised and acknowledged this as an error. They are a good reliable option for outside of Europe trips.

Food came quickly. Staff very friendly and polite . However the chef or person preparing the food did not seem to read the menu! If it says a meal should come with vegetables, you should not have to ask for them. They served shepherds pie with garlic bread! The munchies ice cream sundae said it should come in a glass with a flake but came in a little bowl with just a few munchies! When asking the staff were happy to replace and correct but customer should get what they order and what menu says first time round!!

If you like to be mistreated Exodus is perfect for you. If you enjoy terrible choices for hotels and pseudo restaurants Exodus is perfect for you. Careless about their clients and loveless about their propositions. Exodus has been a dissatisfaction and disappointment about every dealing i and my group have had with him. Especially a man called Simone who just cares about the money he can get from you couldn’t care less about service.
