Tour Overview

Cuba’s music, beaches, old cars, striking architecture and revolutionary history combine to make the perfect cultural destination with a lively atmosphere. Our cycle route passes through stunning countryside with a patchwork of plantations, fields and jungle, allowing us to appreciate the traditional way of life that continues today. Out of the saddle we can experience Trinidad’s vibrant music scene, the crumbling colonial buildings of Havana and learn about the revolutionary history of Santiago. After a day of cycling you'll no doubt welcome Cuba's speciality - a refreshing mojito!

Highlights

  • Cycle the length of idyllic Cuba through the country's key historic colonial and revolutionary areas

  • High quality, well-maintained bikes and mechanical support throughout

  • Full vehicle support throughout the trip with two vehicles for groups of 10 or more

  • Cycling leaders trained to UK leadership standards (CTC Bike Tour Leader Award)

  • Vibrant culture with its rum, mojito's and salsa beats!

  • Cuban Tourist Cards included for all UK residents

  • Direct flights with Virgin Atlantic usually available

Itinerary

What's Included

  • Meals
    14 breakfasts, 13 lunches, 10 dinners.

What's Not Included

  • Visas or vaccinations

  • Travel insurance

  • Single accommodation (available on request)

Accommodation

We spend 14 nights in casas particulares, traditional Cuban guesthouses that provide a warm welcome and, best of all, an insight into the local lifestyle and culture. Rooms are on a twin-share basis with air conditioning and private bathrooms.

Every property we use has been inspected and assessed by our local team. Some are large multi-room houses that are home to entire families, others are run by individuals, and in some cases the owners live elsewhere. We typically use several different properties in close vicinity to accommodate our full group. We always do our best to ensure those in single-room accommodation are within a house where other Exodus clients are staying.

The casa owners are usually happy to help with laundry for a small fee. Most casas do not have hairdryers. There are often pets (a cat or dog) at the casas - please advise at the time of booking if this is problematic.

Please note, power cuts occur regularly in Cuba and you should expect there to be blackouts for hours at a time. This is a part of daily life in Cuba and torches are readily available for evening
ight-time blackouts. Hot water supplies are not always guaranteed and water pressure can be temperamental. Cuba is not a luxury destination and anyone travelling to the island should be prepared for this.

Food

14 breakfasts, 13 lunches and 10 dinners included, allowing the option to try
some local restaurants on the other evenings.

We provide packed lunches during the day and there are plenty of water and
fruit refreshment stops. 3 litres of water per person is included on cycling
days. You may wish to bring some of your own energy snacks, as food shops,
cafes and restaurants are scarce in many of the rural areas we visit. Cuba is
not renowned for its culinary excellence (although it is improving). Food can
sometimes be relatively unexciting and expensive - in no small part due to
the long trade embargo implemented by the US. Vegetarians will often find the
food choice limited. Meals will be more varied for everyone in Havana and
seafood is available on the coast. We recommend that you allow CUC 20 to CUC
30 pp per day for the lunches and evening meals on the days where food is not
included. If you need more water than provided, it is available for approx.
CUC 1.50 per bottle.

Cycling Cuba

An excellent cycling trip with plenty to challenge

An excellent cycling trip with plenty to challenge the keen cyclist. We saw hugely varied aspects of Cuban life, from farming to city and town life. The group were great fun and we all got on very well. The tour guide was excellent and looked after us from start to finish.

Cycling is a great way to see Cuba, we visited many areas and whilst we did not have a great amount of time in some of the towns we always had time to see the most interesting aspects of the place. Travelling around was a great way to get the feel of the country and its culture.

A bike, stunning scenery and an amazing group of people to spend time with - what more could you ask for?!? This trip was amazing although a bit more full on that I was expecting but I suspect that was because we all wanted to try and do and see as much as possible so just kept running! Mohitos and Cristals to recover though and off we went again - what are you waiting for? Go for it!!

My husband and I went on this trip in August. It was even hotter than we expected (and had been led to believe), despite this we had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend the trip. We covered much of Cuba and had a chance to spend time in some lovely little towns and cycle through great scenery. Havana was amazing. It was good to cycle as part of a group and everyone was very sociable and mixed well. The accommodation was mostly good with air con in every instance. (essential). Salsa dancing in the square in Trinidad and at the Buena Vista Social club was fun.

the overall trip was well planned and easy. you will need a little fitness to stay with the group who cycle possibly once a week.. or head to the gym for this.. the food was fine, the scenery was interesting but at this stage Cuba is what it is, years of neglect in all areas, however its safe and adequate. dont go looking for a 5 star experience when the money is not in the country if it was - you would be paying 5 times more.. cuba is to be enjoyed from yesteryear and if you are old enough to remember what i am saying you will understand what i am saying. No countries were wealthy years ago and did not have technology like we do today...There is adequate amount of Wifi its not brilliant as you would find in other countries but again that is not what Cuba is about certainly not in the areas that we experienced.. How many countries today can you say there are more horse and carts then old cars..... Highly recommend taking a gel seat for your bike , wear bike gloves, take a face mask to protect your lungs from dust when riding on dirt roads , slap on lots of sunscreen cream and just relax

16 day cycling holiday in Cuba, covering most of the island. Cycling between 35-80k for 10 days, with back-up support and bus transfers. Staying in huge variety of accommodation, from 5 star luxury hotels, to Russian utilitarian hotels, to beautiful colonial hotels, and a couple of casas, giving insight into how the locals live.

Trip of a Lifetime!

This is the first time I've ever written a review

This is the first time I've ever written a review online but I feel that it's absolutely worth it. I've just returned from the Cycling Cuba trip with a group of 17 others (from late teens to mid-sixties) plus our excellent guide Laz and drivers Tuna and Alberto. The trip surpassed all expectations - I loved it and really feel that I saw and experienced a lot of Cuba; from bustling Havana to the Caribbean beaches, old town Trinidad, 5* hotel in Santiago, fishing village of Gibara and much, much more. It was all excellently organised and Laz made the organisation look so easy, which no doubt it wasn't. The drivers were so helpful and everybody always had a smile on their faces. There was a variety of food and accommodation - some not great, some excellent but that reflects what's on offer. I'd recommend this trip to anybody. Do it, do it soon before the American brands move in and it's awash with Starbucks and McDonalds!
