Tour Overview

Val di Fassa lies between Marmolada (3,343m), the Dolomites' highest peak, and Catinaccio (2,965m), the famous long ridge that glows red in the rising sun. Based in the lovely village of Campitello, we are ideally situated to access neighbouring valleys and discover their attractive villages. We walk along jagged limestone spires towering above and through lush green valleys carpeted with a profusion of alpine flowers. With excellent chairlift, cablecar and bus links, we are able to access a huge variety of walks, thus allowing us to offer two grades of walking on each departure.

Highlights

  • Exceptional trails

  • Moderate and challenging walks

  • Views of the Marmolada

Fly to Venice; transfer to Campitello. In the evening the leaders will hold
a welcome meeting to discuss the week ahead and give advice on the local
area.

Day 2

Our day walks mix high-altitude routes that guarantee stunning Dolomite
scenery with some lower level trails down to the Val di Fassa. The early
season should ensure that we see a wide variety of alpine flowers. We will
begin our journey by taking a cable car towards Col Rodella and then walk
along the southern flank of SassoLungo/Sasso Piatto to Rifugio Sasso Piatto.
There will be an opportunity for an optional walk as far as viewpoint
Palacia. We retrace our steps to the refuge for lunch before we descend via
Rifugio Micheluzzi to Campitello.

15Km; 300m ascent and 1100m descent; max altitude 2400m

Day 3

We start the day by taking a bus to Vigo di Fassa, from here we will take a
cable car to Ciampedie.  Walking North West to Gardeccia then up Val di
Vaiolet to Rifugio Principe for lunch. Here you will get a fantastic view of
the valley before returning via the same route to Gardeccia and Ciampedie
with a possible alternative descent via chairlifts to Pera.

17Km; 650m ascent and 650m descent; max altitude 2597m

Day 4

Today we take a short bus journey to Alba and then a cable car to Col
Rossi.  We will walk east along a generally contouring path via Viel dal Pan
with spectacular views of Marmolada (3343m) to the south.  Stopping for
Lunch at Col de Cuc, then descending through the Avisio valley to Penia for
our bus back to Campitello.

16Km; 230m ascent and 1080m descent; max altitude 2340m

Day 5

Optional activities for the free day include self-guided cycling from
Campitello or a day trip to see the remains of Oetzi, famous 'ice-man', in
Bolzano.

Day 6

Today we begin by taking a bus to Pozza and then the gondola lift to
Buffaure. After, we will make our way towards Col Valvacin, continuing our
journey up the minor peak and then east to Forca Neigra, stopping for lunch
at Rifugio Passo San Nicolo.  We will finish todays walk by descending via
Val di Contrin to Alba for our bus ride back to Campitello.

range, walking over high passes along high-level footpaths. We will begin
with a bus journey over Passo Costalonga to the Paolina chairlift.  Once at
the top, we walk on the western side of Catinaccio massif making our way
round to the eastern side for lunch at Baita M. Pederiva. Finishing our walk
following the route to Ciampedie for our cable car descent.

Accommodation

Passed down from father to son, Sport Hotel Enrosadira is a three-star hotel in the village of Campitello. The name – Enrosadira – is Ladin (a language spoken by roughly 30,000 in this mountainous region) for ‘those brief, fleeting moments in which the sky seems to light up and catch fire among the peaks of the Dolomites’.

Those same peaks make a beautiful backdrop for this hotel and you can enjoy lovely views from the large terrace. Elsewhere, there’s a sauna, bar, and lounge with comfortable armchairs to relax in the evenings. Wifi is available in the communal areas. There’s also a restaurant serving a mix of local and Mediterranean cuisines.

Worth knowing

There is no lift at the hotel.

Food

All breakfasts and 6 dinners are included, provided by the hotel.

The hotel restaurant provides generous breakfasts and traditional evening

Incredible views, great food and superb leaders

An excellent trip that takes in all of the sites and hikes you would want to do in the Val de Fassa. The trip has two types of walking each day - level 3 and 5, the 5s are a good pace and you need to have a fair level of fitness to participate, they also become more technical which makes them very interesting compared to other holidays. You visit the Sasso Lungo group, summit Piz Boe, undertake a ridge walk, hike around the Roda de Vael and the views and scenery is just beautiful from start to finish. The trip has new base at the Hotel Enrosadira in Campitello - the food is absolutely fantastic, as I gather previous travellers had not found the food so good at the last hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The location is perfect and Campitello has everything you could need.

The holiday was very well organised. At the beginning we were met by one of the leaders at Venice airport, who accompanied us on the coach to the hotel. The hotel was comfortable, excellent food, and friendly staff. It was really good to have two grades of walks to choose from. Both had a good variety of fabulous scenery scenery and mountain experiences. The two leaders were very helpful, accommodating, competent and knowledgeable, and worked hard to make our holiday so wonderful. I would recommend this to anyone who loves mountain adventures.

This was our first trip with Exodus, and first group-led holiday and we thoroughally enjoyed every minute. We had an amazing time, made some great friends and are already planning another Exodus trip next year. Every walk was amazing and each had its own unique points. A lot of us commented that we would not have attempted the walks on our own, but going with an organised group made everything simple, easy and enjoyable.

This was my second Exodus walking holiday and I had a wonderful trip in the Dolomites. The week was well organised with great leaders and a lovely group of fellow travellers. Having the choice of two walking grades is a great idea so you can see how you’re feeling each day and then decide which group to join. Each walk offered something new and the mountains are truly spectacular with amazing views. We were well looked after by the friendly staff at Hotel Enrosadira. If you enjoy the outdoors and fancy some mountain walking, I’d recommend this trip

Highlights of the Dolomites was a week long tracking holiday with one rest day, mid way through. the walks were varied in length, ascent and intensity. Each day was a different walk within the valley where we were based. We used the ski lifts to take us up the higher areas from where we started our walks and we usually walked down to the valley at the end where we would find a hostelry to quench thirsts and to discuss the days' highs and lows! We used public transport when required as well as ski lifts; the purchase of a pass for each form of transport certainly kept us moving smoothly , with no queuing" Our hotel was excellent with a wide variety of breakfasts and dinners. Food was in abundance! No one went hungry, unless by choice. The staff were friendly and always eager to assist when required.

It was my first multi-day hiking adventure, and initially, I hesitated, unsure if it was the right choice for a beginner like me. However, it turned out to be an absolutely wonderful experience. Thanks to our exceptional guides, Rob and Jenny, along with a fantastic group of fellow travelers, this journey became truly unforgettable. A heartfelt THANK YOU to Rob and Jenny for their expertise, knowledge, unwavering support, and uplifting encouragement.

We chose this trip because we imagined that we could manage C grade walking but wanted the daily availability of the B grade in case we needed an 'easier' day. Having two leaders made this possible. All the walks exceeded our best expectations. Each one had a distinctive character of its own.
