The Nervión divides the city in two: the old city and the new. To the east lies the charming narrow streets of the Old Town, or Casco Viejo (or Zazpi Kaleak) district. Casco Viejo is packed with traditional restaurants, Basque cider houses or 'sagardotegis', and pintxo bars. The area is also home to historic landmarks like the St. James' Cathedral and the sprawling Mercado de la Ribera. On the other side of the river lies the more modern half of the city. This section includes the late 19th-century bourgeois expansion of Bilbao, where you'll find iconic buildings like the cutting-edge Palacio Euskalduna and the world-renowned Guggenheim Museum, designed by architect Frank Gehry. While the Guggenheim is an impressive attraction not to be missed, overlooking the rest of the city would be almost criminal.

This evening enjoy dinner at NKO Eneko Restaurant located in your hotel. NKO is a project that brings together two important gastronomic cultures, the Basque, which is Enekos original, and the Japanese, a cuisine that Eneko Atxa has loved for more than 15 years when he first traveled to Japan and discovered the gastronomic cultural wealth of the country.

Day 12: La Rioja – Barcelona (B/L/D)

Location: Barcelona

Accommodation Name: hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning depart for Barcelona. Like many other cities in the Mediterranean, Barcelona was founded by the Romans. The original settlement, called Barcino, was a small port located in the same spot as today's cathedral. The town was overshadowed by Tarragona, the capital of the province. Both the Visigoths and the Moors invaded Barcelona; however, their influence was not as important to the future of the city as the arrival of the Franks in the late 9th century. It was at that point that Barcelona and Catalonia started shaping their own identity, different from the rest of Spain. This is most apparent in the language – Spanish, or Castilian, has many Arabic words, while Catalan has many French words instead. So Catalan is not a Spanish dialect, but a language, related to other Romance languages. Barcelona's history is seen everywhere in the city. The oldest areas are located by the sea, including the shopping enclave Barri Gotic. On the other side of the main boulevard, La Rambla, lies the legendary Raval district. Until the 1980s, this was the slum area, home to the city's own Chinatown (Barrio Chino) and the red-light district. Today, designer shops and cafés have moved in. Further north is the fashionable Eixample neighbourhood, an area created because of the 19th-century expansion of the city.

This evening enjoy dinner at Restaurant Nuria, which was opened in 1926.  The restaurant is home to a permanent exhibition that shows the art that was always present in the city through nine mural pieces from artists as Lalimola (1930), Ignasi Blanch (1940), Miquel Ferreres (1950), Mercè Iglesias (1960), Toni Batllori (1970), Nazario Luque (1980), Dani Buch (1990), Laura Carreira (2000) or Óscar Nebreda (2010).

Explore the incredible history of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter on a walking tour of the Old City and end with great views of Barcelona from the top of Montjuic Hill.

This evening enjoy a flamenco show performed by local artists, including flamenco guitar, singing, and dancing. With a glass of wine and a selection of tapas you will feel the thrill of pure flamenco.

You will take a short walk to the top of the mountain to enjoy breathtaking views of the countryside.

Continue your day out driving to the verdant vineyards of Penedés to visit a family run cellar that has been cultivating grapes since 1385. The vines absorb most of the moisture they require from the air to create delicate and fresh white wines that are renowned around the world. France has Champagne and Spain has Cava, a sparkling wine thats only produced in this superb wine region. Enjoy stunning view of the vineyards and Montserrat Mountain while tasting 3 different Cavas accompanied by local cured meats and cheese.

Enjoy a food and wine experience for all five senses. Visit the vineyards of Can Vendrell de la Codina and taste wines along the way. Once you have finished, lunch will be served at the restaurant at Mirador de les Caves, along with one of their wines.

Thanks to Indus and Nicko Cruise for a great trip down the Danube. I had not been on a river cruise prior to this and found it a very relaxing way to travel and see some European highlights. The ship was superb. The staff served great meals, were friendly and accommodating. As far as the tours and city visits, they all gave us a reasonable amount of time and insight into the location we were visiting to come away with a sense that we had a good glimpse of the city and were able to spend some free time in the city as well. A special thanks to Dhruv our fearless leader from Indus who was a great organizer. Lastly - nice to meet all of you in our group. terry

Booked Mystical Egypt tour with them visiting Cairo and a 03 Nights Cruise from Luxor to Aswan in May. All services were perfect since the time we arrived at the airport, we were met by a hospitable Indus Representative who helped us with the purchase of local SIM and currency exchange. He was always there in time to assist for transfers. The Amwaj Cruise which we took from Luxor to Aswan was a Gem. We had great guides and all sightseeing worked like a clockwork. We enjoyed visiting Karnak Temples, Temples of Edfu, Kom Ombo and the boat ride to see Phillae Temple. Evening entertainment on cruise were great and engaging. In Cairo and Aswan, we had ample leisure time to explore on own, the Pyramids were impressive and visiting Khan e Khalili was fun. Overall and impressive and enjoyable tour, Thanks to Indus Travels!

09-Jun-2023

Recently went on a Rhine River Cruise, a first for me. I must say the experience was exceptional, their tagline says. The group I was with were some of the most fun and interesting set of people I've ever traveled with. The ground transportation arrangements were top notch and comfortable. Variety in menu that we were provided with in the cruise was astounding. I was a bit worried if they'd have much options for me as I'm a vegetarian. But they not only had options, the taste was something I'd savor for foreseeable future. There's a reason Rhine cruises are popular owing to it's serene and picturesque route. Guided tours were very informative and gave us a bit of an insight of German culture. We had good amount of time to explore the towns on our own too. Strasbourg and Cochem were my favorite stops. Luckily the weather worked in our favour and it didn't rain the way it was predicted originally. No one from our group wanted the tour to end. If this trip was any indication, I can't wait to book my next trip with Indus Travels.

Indus Travel runs a highly professional organization. From customer service to brochures, bookings, tour guides, etc. and the consideration for their customers is superb. This was the first time I had travelled with Indus Travels. We took the Taste of Portugal Tour. Group numbers are small, accommodation comfortable and food excellent. The expert guide who accompanied us was outstanding - passionate, informative, engaging, and entertaining. This company is obviously at the heart of the itinerary planning, and attention to detail is second to none. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting a fun, relaxed, educational vacation with fine food - they will deliver! We will never forget this trip and we are already planning for another one to Wonders of Italy, Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.

We just returned from our trip to Greece and are more than highly please and satisfied with our experience. They planned an amazing itinerary, booked amazing hotels, hired knowledgeable tour guides and arranged high quality transportation services. Everyone went above and beyond to please us. We are already planning a trip for next year (2024) and will definitely use Indus to do so.
