  • Explore the serene countryside, medieval architecture and glittering waters of the famed Amalfi Coast, passing through flourishing vineyards and olive groves.

  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, Cooperativa Coraggio. Donations help them regenerate 22 hectares of unused public land to create local jobs and produce organic food in Italy.

  • Explore the caves of Capri’s Grotta Azzura (the Blue Grotto) and swim daily in the glittering waters of the Mediterranean. Then, spend every night falling asleep to the gentle rock of waves on board your group’s yacht.?

Day 1: Procida - Ischia

Location: Procida - Ischia

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Benvenuto! Welcome to Italy. Your trip begins in Procida – the tiny, colourful island off the coast of Naples. If you have spare time this morning, maybe explore the city, see the walled medieval town of Terra Murata or the charming port of Corricella. Start with a group meeting at 3 pm, then head to the local supermarket to buy supplies for your trip as a group. Sail the short distance to Ischia. In contrast to Procida, it’s the largest island in the Bay of Naples. Disembark and shake off the sea legs by exploring the famous Castello Aragonese, built in the 1400s. This impressive fortress sits suspended above the sea on a volcanic rock connected to Ischia. Tonight, ask your skipper for the best dinner spots and maybe head out with your group before spending your first night at sea.

Day 2: Ischia - Sorrento

Location: Ischia - Sorrento

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Spend the first part of your day today in idyllic Ischia. Ischia is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples, known for its mineral-rich thermal waters and hot springs. Maybe you’d like to visit Spiaggia dei Pescatori – an idyllic beach nestled between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. This afternoon, set sail for Sorrento. This coastal town offers panoramic views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Once you arrive, it’ll be easy to see why this is a popular tourist destination in Italy. Tonight, you’ll have the opportunity to try one of Sorrento's well-known exports – Limoncello. This a liqueur produced from locally grown Femminello Santa Teresa lemons – yum!

Optional Activities:
-Castello Aragonese entrance

Day 3: Sorrento - Pompeii

Location: Sorrento - Pompeii

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Today after breakfast, you’ll have the option to visit the abandoned city of Pompeii – a Roman settlement that was frozen in time when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Well-preserved buildings, artwork and pottery offer a glimpse into the lives of the ancient Romans. There’s also an option to hire a private guide for the ruins, as the site could easily be explored over an entire day (the additional cost of a private guide will be split between the group). Another possible activity is a visit to Mount Vesuvius National Park – if you choose this activity, you’ll have a half-hour local bus and a walk at 1200 m above sea level. Ensure you have warm clothes, a rain jacket and plenty of sun protection.

Optional Activities:
-Entry into Pompeii ruins
-Private Guide - Pompeii - per group
-Mt Vesuvius entry & bus
-Circumvesuiana train Sorrento to Pompeii
-Pompeii - Herculaneum Ruins

Day 4: Sorrento - Amalfi

Location: Sorrento - Amalfi

Accommodation: Overnight boat

This morning you’ll set sail for the Amalfi Coast, passing the Sirenusas (Gallos) archipelago to the east of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The afternoon is free to explore Amalfi. You could check out the medieval architecture of Sant'Andrea Cathedral and Cappuccini Convent. You may also like to walk along the narrow trails through olive groves, vineyards and ancient villages. While the trails are steep and full of stairs, there are spectacular views over the ocean at regular intervals. Why not join an optional dinner with your group this evening and feast on local seafood and gelato?

Optional Activities:
-Grotta dello Smeraldo - by boat
-Grotta dello Smeraldo by Bus
-Grotta dello Smeraldo entrance
-Catterdrale di Sant'Andrea & Chiostro del Paradiso
-Museo dell Carta entrance

Day 5: Amalfi - Capri

Location: Amalfi - Capri

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Today, set sail to the Isle of Capri – once home to the magnificent holiday palaces of the Roman emperors. After you arrive in Capri, there is an optional excursion in a small motorboat to circumnavigate the Isle of Capri. View the island and its impressive cliffs and many grottos – including the green, white and famous Blue Grotto. To enter the Blue Grotto, you'll need to switch to a smaller rowboat, and although swimming in the grotto isn’t permitted, there’s a small platform close by where you can take a dip. After, there will be time to catch the bus to the Town of Capri or visit the hillside town of Anacapri. If you head there, it's worth visiting the Villa San Michele – the former home to a Swedish doctor that's built on the ruins of a Roman villa. Make your way to Capri Town by the Phoenician Steps (Scala Fenicia), a long, steep stairway linking the towns of Capri and Anacapri. A moderate fitness level and comfortable shoes are required if you decide to climb the steps.

Optional Activities:
-Anacapri - Villa San Michele entrance
-Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo entrance
-Capri Cable Car return ticket
-Capri - Blue Grotto Boat Tour - Per Group
-Capri - Blue Grotto Entrance

Day 6: Forio, Ischia

Location: Forio, Ischia

Accommodation: Overnight boat

This morning after breakfast, leave Capri and set sail toward Forio, in the north of Ischia Island. Along the way, stop for a swim in the idyllic waters and arrive in Forio in the afternoon. Tonight, you’re free to explore this little paradise on foot or partake in one of the optional activities your skipper recommends. As this is the most populated town on the island, there are lots of little restaurants and delicious spots to eat – your skipper will also know all the best dining options, so you can find exactly what you’re in the mood for.

Day 7: Procida

Location: Procida

Accommodation: Overnight boat

This morning after breakfast, you’ll sail back to Procida. Stop for a swim along the way, arriving by the afternoon. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore the beautiful town on foot – chase the perfect photo, people watch at a café or visit the Palazzo d’Avalos, the island’s former prison. Tonight, sail to the main marina, stopping along the way at Marina Della Carricella to see one of the most photographed parts of the island. Then perhaps enjoy an optional group dinner in the town of rabbit stew or seafood, accompanied by a couple of glasses of local wine and some Limoncello. What better way to cap off a great sailing trip?

Day 8: Procida

Location: Procida

There are no activities planned for today, so you’re free to leave any time after breakfast. If you wish to spend more time here, just speak to your booking agent.

Transport

  • This is a sailing adventure so our time is spent on board a monohull yacht. You may be asked to assist on-deck, particularly when coming into or leaving port. No experience is necessary, but getting to know some 'sailing language' might help to get you into the spirit of the adventure.
  • Bow - front of the boat
  • Stern - rear of the boat
  • Port - left
  • Starboard - right
  • Deck - outside, upper area of the boat
  • Hull - the main part or body of the boat
  • Keel - part of the boat under water that keeps the boat stable and stops it capsizing
  • Mainsail - the large sail attached to the mast and boom
  • Mast - the big vertical pole that supports the mainsail
  • Boom - the big horizontal pole attached to the mainsail, coming off the rear of the mast (swing from side to side)
  • Jib, headsail, genoa, foresail - smaller sail near the front of the boat
  • Sheet - ropes used to control the sails
  • Booty - another word for pirate treasure
  • Lines - other ropes on the boat (ropes are never called ropes on yachts)
  • Spinnaker - large extra sail
  • Trim the sails - adjust the position of the sails when the wind changes strength or direction
  • Tiller or wheel or helm - used to steer the boat
  • Helmsman - person steering the boat
  • Running - sailing with the wind
  • Tack - turning the bow of the boat when sailing through the wind
  • Jibe - turning the stern of the boat when sailing through the wind
  • Figure-eight knot - the stopper: often used at the end of lines to stop them getting away.
  • Bowline (knot) - strong and dependable knot that is commonly used
  • Clove Hitch (knot) - not as secure it is often used to attach an object to a line

Accommodation

  • This trip is accommodated entirely on board a yacht of between 48ft to 52ft. A typical yacht for 8 travellers is equipped with 4 double share cabins, 2/3 shared bathrooms and 2 showers. Our boats are real yacht’s and this is a real sailing trip. Yachts are designed to keep sleeping areas to the absolute minimum of space, while maximising common areas as much as possible.
  • Rooms are allocated on arrival by our skipper according to group composition, which means it is not possible to reserve or guarantee any specific berth or cabin. Single passengers will be paired up with another passenger of the same gender, which will mean sharing a double cabin with a double mattress. Everyone including the skipper shares the bathrooms on board. There is no twin share bedding on this yacht.
  • While not everyone may feel entirely comfortable living in such close quarters, those who are looking to revel in the adventure and exhilaration of an authentic sailing trip usually find any discomfort from cramped living conditions is more than made up for by the whole experience.
  • ELECTRICITY:
  • While there should be electricity on board throughout your trip the voltage is likely to vary widely, from 12V to 220V, and when in port or moored we are dependent on the supply available. Please be aware that the supply may not be sufficient to power some electronic devices all the time and that you may need a voltage adapter or similar (such as portable inverter used in cars). On some trips it may be possible to charge devices ashore at restaurants or resorts, however this is not guaranteed.
  • ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION:
  • Please note that the majority of our sailing trips start and/or finish at a marina or port. For most of our destinations, we can provide transfers between the airport/hotel and the port/marina. Please check the joining and finish point information in the trip notes for details.
  • WI-FI:
  • Please note that our sailing boats do not have Wi-Fi. You will be getting off the boat and visiting towns regularly so you will be able to connect with the outside world then.

Important Information

  • PASSPORT DETAILS:
  • Please provide full passport details at time of booking including exact name as per passport, date of birth, nationality, issue and expiry dates as these are essential for booking services on this trip.
  • ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION:
  • Please note that the majority of our sailing trips start and/or finish at a marina or port. If you have pre-booked any additional accommodation through us, you will need to make your own way to the joining point on day 1 and from the finish point on the final day. We do not provide transfers between hotels and the port/marina. Please check the joining and finish point information in the Essential Trip Information for details.
  • SNORKELLING
  • There are many opportunities for snorkelling during this trip. Diving masks, snorkels and fins are provided onboard the yacht and are for use by all passengers. They are disinfected prior to use. Some customers may prefer to bring their own diving mask and snorkel from home and just use the fins available on board.
  • TRIP KITTY:
  • On this trip it's compulsory to contribute to a kitty of EUR90 per person. The kitty is an on-ground payment put into a central fund managed by travellers. It helps fund for breakfast and lunch on the boat and other small items such as ice, water, snacks and drinks. Travellers are responsible for the preparation of these meals onboard and to shop at port where supermarkets are often very close to the mooring. Kitty amounts are subject to change to reflect local price increases. On day 1, the skipper will talk through the kitty and how it will be managed (by yourself or fellow travellers) The kitty will be collected when you arrive at the welcome meeting or in stages throughout your trip.

Check out our Q&As

  • Is this trip right for you

As most of this trip takes place on a sailing boat, you’ll need to feel comfortable with moving about the vessel, including using stairs. If you’re prone to seasickness, it is advised that you bring some tablets from home.

Our yachts have a small Zodiac on board, which is used to transport travellers to shore if we need to anchor in the bay. However, we will most often overnight in the small marinas on each island we visit, so the Zodiacs aren’t used. Zodiacs can sometimes be awkward to climb in and out of, but a sense of humour and a can-do attitude are all you need.

This is an adventure on board a real yacht, which means living spaces, cabins, bathrooms and showers need to be shared with other passengers. Sleeping quarters can be relatively compact, but you will spend most of your time above board in the open air.

Just leaving a review to share how much I enjoyed my Central America trip. I thought the guide, Aura was so knowledgeable and organised and clearly a great ambassador for Intrepid. She gave us lots of information on each region, helped us organise anything we needed and dealt with queries from passengers very well and diplomatically. She made the trip run smoothly. She was also keen to explain the Intrepid vision and how the company values making a difference to locals and is a credit to your company. I did Guatemala and beyond and thoroughly enjoyed it - very fast paced, lots to see and do and a great overview of the region. I would definitely recommend 👍

I just completed my first Intrepid tour which was 33 days travelling around Central America - I had the time of my life! It was great to have the benefit of a guide (Fluffy was amazing!) and be able to ask questions at any point, but I also liked the freedom that you were permitted throughout. The group tour made boarder crossings seamless and the whole process felt easy - there was never one hiccup. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe throughout, and I cannot recommend Central America enough - the people, the food, the sun and the activities were just amazing :) Can't wait to book my next adventure soon!

I have just come back home after doing Intrepid's 10-day Vietnam Express Northbound tour. What a SUPERB tour. We saw lots and did lots, it was jam-packed full of sights and activities. Our tour leader, Tam, was the best ever. Very knowledgeable, organised and lots of fun too. The other 10 people on the group were all lovely. The places we visited were very interesting. We even visited local homes and ate just like the local people do. I highly recommend Intrepid to anyone considering touring a new country. This was my 5th tour with them and they have consistently been fantastic.

I have travelled with Intrepid a number of times now and can't recommend them enough. The trips are always exciting, full of history and immersive in the culture and environment. The office staff are great too and always happy to help with any questions you might have. Everywhere I have gone with the company has been different but the guides and itinerary have always been excellent and full of knowledge and passion for their country. Add in the social responsibility angle the company has and it top quality ethical practice and you can't go wrong

15-Mar-2024

I recently went on an 11 day tour of India with Intrepid and was impressed with every aspect of the tour, the tour leader and the organisation behind the scenes. I always travel alone so it was a big deal to join a tour, I didn't want to feel less independent or ferried about. I loved being part of a group and the things we saw and did on the tour, I would never have known about or seen if I had been by myself. I loved it from start to finish. Yes the overnight trains were not easy to sleep on, but I managed. Meeting locals on board was a high light for me. English is widely spoken in India and its amazing who you strike up a chat with. I had two problems on the tour - one my own fault and one hotel related. The support from Intrepid was amazing. I cannot thank them enough for going the extra mile to support me. I recommend Intrepid 100% and have gone from thinking an organised tour is for people who don't know about Lonely Planet and can't do solo stuff, to realising its a faster, better, more fun way to get to know a country truly and deeply whilst on a bit of a budget. I will book again and again with Intrepid. I loved it that much! Big thanks to tour leader Daddy H. Devender for his help on day one, and Nick in the Oz office for his fab customer care skills. Also the person who staffed the emergency whatsapp in India - you saved my sanity helping me get there a day late! THANK YOU ALL X

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

I have just completed a 12 day food tour of Vietnam, and had an amazing time. Our tour leader was great, knowledgeable and kind, who helped throughout the trip with recommendations for places on our free days, and spas. All the food we tried was delicious. It is a very fast paced tour, and Bon tried to maximise our experiences for the best.

13-Aug-2024

We had a fantastic time on the Botswana Highlights tour recently. We chose Intrepid because it seemed to suit what we wanted - well planned itinerary, small group, comfortable without being overly luxurious (and pricey), and supportive of the local community and environment. We weren't disappointed, and as we met with other like-minded travellers then we all had a great time. We are already planning our next Intrepid tour - maybe Vietnam & Cambodia :-)
