Itinerary
Day 1-3: Kathmandu/Chitwan National Park
Location: Kathmandu/Chitwan National Park
Accommodation: Green Mansions Jungle Resort or Similar
Namaste! Welcome to Nepal. Please meet at our Kathmandu office listed in the 'Joining point' section in the Essential Trip Information the day prior to departure at 5 pm for a meeting.
We'll depart Kathmandu after breakfast approximately 8 am, travelling by private vehicle to Chitwan National Park (approximately 5 hours). Of all the world's remaining jungles, this is one of the most enchanting. Discover a lost world of towering trees and twisting vines and of lumbering rhinos. There are crocodiles, pythons, deer and brilliantly coloured birds. Spend the evenings by the banks of the river Rapti in the small village of Sauraha, located on the edge of the park.
Over the next few days you'll boat along the Rapti, which shelters around a quarter of the world's remaining gharial population. This fish-eating crocodile has been hunted in the past for the supposed aphrodisiac qualities of its snout. Enjoy a guided jeep safari into the National Park as well as a bird-watching experience, and spend some time in a local village. Cap the trip off with an evening performance of a traditional stick dance by the local Tharu people.

Accommodation
The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation.Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available. ...more ...less

Is this trip right for you
On Short Breaks, you maintain a good level of independence and freedom, with the added bonus of having the details sorted out for you. You’ll have lots of free time and you won’t be accompanied by a Trip Leader. This means that all included activities and tours will be run by different local Intrepid partners, and these may operate independently from each other. The included activities and transfers will operate on a join-in basis, which means that you could have your Adventure all to yourself, or others may join you along the way. If you would prefer to travel in a group with a dedicated Trip Leader, just get in touch with your booking agent and they will take you through some alternatives.
While there will be opportunities to spot many different kinds of wildlife, sightings cannot be guaranteed as this is a national park where animals are free to roam rather than a zoo or wildlife park.
You will see tour operators offering elephant riding activities and many tourists taking part in them during your time in Chitwan. Intrepid Travel has a strong elephant welfare policy and as such we discourage travellers from riding elephants in Nepal or anywhere around the world. See the Responsible Travel section for more information. ...more ...less -
