From July 28, 1916, until his passing on September 23, 1968, Padre Pio, renowned for his stigmata, called this city home. His stigmata, deemed a miracle, was recognized by the Pope after rigorous examinations by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, which unanimously declared it “scientifically inexplicable.” Padre Pio was beatified on May 2, 1999, in a ceremony attended by millions at Saint Peter’s Square, and he was canonized as a Saint on June 16, 2002. In March 2009, his body was exhumed and displayed at the Santa Maria delle Grazie shrine until September of the same year. Take your time exploring this sacred site and reflecting on its profound history. After a meaningful day, return to your hotel to relax and unwind.
